Musical Monday

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I have another vampire obsession. This time it’s the HBO series True Blood. I watched all 12 episodes of season 1 (in 3 days!) and love it.  I love the grittiness of it, the dark humour, the sleaziness and although he’s no Edward Cullen, am quite fond of the lead vampire Bill Compton.

Am even more fond of the sadistic boss guy vampire Eric Northman. Yum.

Anyway, my musical Monday song this week is the song from the opening credits. “Bad Things” by Jace Everett:

Musical Monday

I have been playing this song on repeat for the last week. It’s renewed my love for proper punk rock and inspired me to dig deep into my hard drive and rediscover some of the tunes I was listening to in the early 90s.

It’s from the Watchmen soundrack, which is a fabulous soundtrack by the way, if you like that kind of thing, and is a (loose) cover of the Bob Dylan song.

Look at me being a responsible blogger, doing my first Musical Monday in months!

This one is a bit of a cheat really.  I do love the song, but am posting it mainly for the video. I recently read the Twilight series of books, and thoroughly enjoyed them, to the point of obsession. I lost a week of my life as every spare minute was spent reading.  I know the books were written for teenagers, but as long as you aren’t looking to be intellectually challenged and concentrate on the story, they really are a great read.  I also went to the cinema to see the movie adaptation (before reading the books, I may add) and have become slightly obsessed with the actor who plays the vampire lead. He is a beautiful specimen the male form, it has to be said.  I feel a bit like a lecherous old woman lusting after an (eternally) 17 year old vampire boy, but he’s 22 in real life, so it’s all above board and legal in the real world. ;)
Anyway, here’s the song, Paramore - Decode.  Yummmm.

Oh, and if you want to see more of Robert Pattinson, check out his recent GQ photoshoot. PHWOARRRRRRRR

Musical Monday plus 2 and a bit days

I have this obsession with this guy, I don’t mention it much, (mostly because the insane laughter that ensues shortly afterwards is unnerving) but I think he’s fabulous and have done for over 10 years.  So my obsession, it’s still there, and still real, still laughable….  (and I must be serious as I let the coma that is Sheryl Crow into my blog on his behalf)

Musical Monday #i don’t know

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I am making a concerted effort here to do my musical mondays again. I first started with them after seeing the lovely Claire feature them on her blog, but I think they originated from 0ddness.

Anyway, in honour of the bank holiday, I’d like to announce my hatred of and bitterness towards all happy families. Actually, that’s a lie, I just really wish that someone somewhere would realise that actually, I’m quite cool, funny, interesting, and that actually, my wee boy is all of that times a million, and really, we have just the best little thing going on ever, and I just wish we could share it with someone. Easier said than done when you are the most defensive woman on the plant who shields her son from any other human on the planet with batfink’s wings. Not to mention the refusal to date.

Anyway, despite that, this is what I would like.

Musical Monday #2

This song reminds me of our group holiday to Turkey. It was the last holiday that our big group of friends from school took together. We were already starting to split into our different groups from uni/work etc, but this holiday had some fab memories. Only me and Maureen could go to a holiday destination full of clubbers and glo-sticks and find the only indie, rock and metal pub for 200 miles. We were found bopping along to this on the tiny dancefloor every night for 2 weeks in the 90’s, and poor maureen bopped a bit too hard one night and cracked her head off the huge speakers above the dancefloor. Good times!

Musical Monday #1

Monday, May 21st, 2007

After reading Claire’s Musical Monday posts over on her blog, I decided it’d be fun to join in, and do a musical post every monday.

My first video is really to get it over and done with. Leonard Cohen is my musical and poetic hero, and has been for over 10 years. I first heard him when we all piled back to my friend Martin’s flat in Glasgow after a night at Rooftops club in Glasgow, I must have been about 19. He pulled out one of his old Leonard Vinyls and played it to us, and from that night on it was all we played when we got all together for post night out chilling.
I wanted to post “So Long, Marianne”, as that was our sing-along-at-the-top-of-our-voices favourite, and we might even have all stood in a circle swaying to is at some point too. (did I just write that?). Anyway, I couldn’t find a video of that, so here is “Bird on a Wire” instead, from the same album.
