I found them!

I have inadvertantly found the stone sculptures that I was wondering about in this post. I was doing a search for EK photos, and this came up, how spooky!

They have been moved to the park beside the Dollan aqua centre, (or the Dollan baths, as it was in my day!). The park used to have a boating pond and a large  paddling pool in it, as well as a swingpark and a huige deathtrap climbing contraption that we called “the dome”, but I think they have all been taken away now.  I’ll need to take a walk down with my camera and see what’s there now.  It will be great to see Callum playing on the stones that I used to play on when I was little.

dscf1296.JPGI am so tired, I am practically falling asleep sitting up.  I thought I’d blog for a while to try and wake myself up.  I should be working, but I’d make too many mistakes if I tried to log on just now, so am having a strong cup of coffee in an attempt to stimulate my brain cells.

It was a lovely day today so we spent the afternoon out on the grass at the front of our flat.  I hate not having a garden, but the large patch of grass right outside is always empty, so we’ve kind of claimed it as ours.  It’s so quiet around here during the week so we rarely see another soul while we’re out there.  I took a blanket, my laptop,a book and picnic out today.  Cal took his car box, scooter and his lightning McQueen chair.

My freckles are out in force, mores the pity :(  I’m so glad the wee man isn’t showing any sign of being a freckled freak like his mum. I even have them on my lips and eyelids. Grr.

I found some photos of my hometown from years ago, and it was such a blast from the past.  It was really strange to see the town centre as it was before it was developed.

This is Princes Square a couple of years ago (the most recent photo I could find):

This was it in the 70s:

It was so strange to see this photo.  When we were little we used to play on those stone things while my mum was shopping in Safeway.  I had completely forgotten they had existed, and seeing them again brought back such a weird sense of recognition. I wonder if they are still around someplace, or if they were demolished completely when they developed the area. The circular building to the right of the square (commonly referred to as “the mushroom” - original) was the entrance to the first nightclub I ever visited - “Downtown Miami”. My friends and I sent away for some fake IDs, and were so nervous the first time we went.  We never did get ID’d, and frequented the little hellhole for a good while until we saw sense and discovered rock music.  It’s made me want to research my home town some more, and find as many photos as I can of the place from the past. It’s so difficult to find photos of old EK though, but I will persevere, I’d hate to think of the memories of history disappearing with time.
