Geek clothing for kids

My mother came in the other week with this geektastic old school long sleeved T-shirt for the boy.

I was, of course overjoyed with it, and he loved it as it had numbers on. Where did she buy this gem i hear you ask? Only old ladies shop BHS of all places! Excuse the state of it in this photo, I had to fish it out of the un-ironed mountain in my bedroom.

Anyway, today we were out shopping, and ventured into Zara kids. I was in heaven!!! It’s a very well kept secret that I am a bit partial to films that are remakes of comics, cult 80’s TV shows and the like. You cannot imagine my glee when I found this beauty amongst the pink polo shirts and woolen tanktops!

Of course it had to be mine….er his. With the boy only being 2 years old, he has no idea what it is all about, but he’s quite excited that he has a “tanformer” on his new top. I got some really cool black baggy combats and a gorgeous black and white striped hoody to match it, and am just waiting on his feet to take a big stretch (they haven’t grown since October!) so I can invest in some Converse Allstars for the spring. Since his mother is now over 30, and resigned to the respectability of heels and handbags, she’ll have to live her secret geeky life through her son.

It’s a dangerous world

….in toddlerdom

This afternoon my boy received his first play related injury, in the form of a gash on his cheek. A delightful little specimen of a child decided to get him in a secluded corner and dig his nails into his face and drag them along until he bled. Of course the child’s mother was nowhere to be seen, and I was being diligent and actually watching what my child was doing, I shouted across to the little boy to get his hands off his face and leave him alone. My poor boy was just standing there bewildered, he had no idea why this little brat had sunk his claws into his face, and just looked so lost and scared. My heart was breaking for him.

When the mother eventually came over, it had to be one of the small handful of women I know in this town, and not some random mother of satan who I could draw dirty looks at all afternoon. So of course I gave the usual “it’s ok” rubbish, and whipped the boy away to douse his face in germoline. My friend and I had to wait untilwe left an hour later before we could let rip on her and her spawn. It was a colourful car journey home, I can tell you.

Anyway, that’s the first one over with, he’s fine, and has a lovely big scab on his cheek to show for his little soft play adventure. He’s still bringing it up every now and again though, so we’ll go back to the same soft play centre next week to show him it’s ok, and make sure he doesn’t associate the place with being hurt. Even though I’m 99% sure it hurt me more than it did him.

About me

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The GeekI’m a 31 year old single mother of a lively but lovely little toddler. I live in my homeland of Scotland, having recently relocated back here from the south east of England, after the death of my long term partner in 2006.

I originally started blogging in 2005, and it helped me through a haze of hormones and unhappy times, and I have recently decided to start from scratch again. I like to talk about life as a single parent, all things Internet (the capitalisation was deliberate!), gadgets, media, photography and fashion amongst other things. If you stumble over here I will apologise now for any posts made on Friday evenings, as that’s wine night! There will be alot of personal ramblings too I’m sure, but then I never was very good at being mysterious.

Say hello if you drop by, as all visitors are very welcome, and if you have a blog, be sure to leave a link as I am very very nosey.

So that’s me, in a blog post sized nutshell!

Here we go again

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Well here I am again!

I used to blog at another domain, but my old host has disappeared from the face of the earth and left me blogless. Stupid me didn’t back up so I lost the last almost 3 years worth of ramblings about life and death. To say I was gutted was putting it mildly, but thinking back, some of it was pretty grim reading, as life has not been a bed of roses for me over the last couple of years. However, over the last couple of months, things have become significantly rosier in my little world, and this new brighter blog will hopefully reflect that. I suppose it’s symbolic in a way. New beginnings and all that.

I shall do a rough guide to moi at some point soon, then get back to the blogging. I generally talk about my life, my child, and things that excite and interest me. (That’ll be shiny gadgets, internet goodies, pretty handbags and trashy TV mostly then..)
