Leaving on a Jetplane

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I’m all packed, I’ve tidied the house, and just have to have a bath and do a final body-beautifying routine, then I’m all set for my holiday.  Oh I have to weigh my suitcase too, which will be fun.  May have to repack the lot if it’s too heavy, eek.

I got my hair done, so the butch mullet has finally gone, it’s quite short, but a nice style and I like it so much better than the last one, so am happy now.  The Boy had the tiniest amount cut off his, so still has his curls there.  He was desperate for Jan to finish cutting mine so he could have his done, it was so funny.  I was barely off the seat and he had popped himself up on it.  He sat so still and just loved having her fuss over him.  When she had finished he asked for “more hair cut please!” LOL.

So anyway, I’m off to run my bath, then am going to relax with a bottle of wine, and maybe just maybe, the last 2 episodes of Lost EEK.  See ya in a week!

Sunseeker

This weather is doing my head in.  I really shouldn’t complain as it’s only the second rainy day we’ve had up here in weeks, but now that my mum is back at work it’s not as easy to just jump in the car and go to soft play on rainy days.  I had to entertain the boy all day indoors, which isn’t a great hardship, but because it’s been so long since we’ve stayed in all day because we had to, it dragged in for me.  I ended up letting him watch his Roary The Racing Car DVD in my bed while I jumped online for a while for some mindless Ebaying.  In my defence, I did mop the whole house, do 2 loads of washing, and make a pot of carrot and lentil soup, so I wasn’t a total slacker!  Oh I also did some organising for our holiday.  We leave on Saturday for a week in Portugal and I cannot wait.

I’m getting my hair done tomorrow again, I really don’t like the cut I have at the moment, and it’s my own fault for asking her to cut in more layers.  Everyone else seems to like it (apart from my Aunty, but getting a compliment out of her is like trying to get blood out of a stone, so that doesn’t count for much), but I think it looks a bit butch.  I’m going to get her to keep the length at the front, but make it shorter at the back, kinda like an inverted bob thing.  She’s gonna give the boy a wee trim too, which I am dreading.  I hate his hair at the best of times, it’s just out of control.  It’s getting quite long, and if he had a decent amount of it I’d let it grow, but it’s so thin, and just grows up and out into these crazy curls. I don’t want her to cut it too short though, he looks like a hooligan with it too short.  Oh I’ll decide tomorrow.

Other than that, I don’t have much to report.  I’ve been watching Heroes recently.  I caught an episode of it on BBC3 the other week, and quite enjoyed it, so decided to start at the beginning and watch the whole lot.  I’ve managed to fit 13 episodes in so far, and it’s really quite good.  I watched to until 1.30 this morning as I couldn’t sleep.  I think it’s the change in the weather that’s affecting my sleep. It’s gone quite muggy outside and I;ve had a sore head and felt a bit out of sorts for the last day or 2, and I’m sure that’s what it is.  This sunny holiday can’t come quick enough!

Musical Monday #i don’t know

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I am making a concerted effort here to do my musical mondays again. I first started with them after seeing the lovely Claire feature them on her blog, but I think they originated from 0ddness.

Anyway, in honour of the bank holiday, I’d like to announce my hatred of and bitterness towards all happy families. Actually, that’s a lie, I just really wish that someone somewhere would realise that actually, I’m quite cool, funny, interesting, and that actually, my wee boy is all of that times a million, and really, we have just the best little thing going on ever, and I just wish we could share it with someone. Easier said than done when you are the most defensive woman on the plant who shields her son from any other human on the planet with batfink’s wings. Not to mention the refusal to date.

Anyway, despite that, this is what I would like.

Sugar Rush

I feel a bit better now.  I went for a walk in the sunshine, came back home, ate a chocolate donut and some jelly tots, drank some diet coke and read Heat magazine.

Worse

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Today is even worse than yesterday, and it’s only bloody 2.30pm. I just threw Callum’s lunch at the wall in anger. (He wasn’t in the room, he had been sent to his bed, so no need to call child protection on me!) My mum came for lunch, and we were planning on going to the heritage park afterwards to feed the ducks and play in the park, but he’s been a fucking horror again all day, and the last straw was when he wouldn’t eat his lunch for the second day in a row. This only happened as I let him off with it yesterday so he thought he’d try it again. He was sent to his room after he tried to kick the table over, and was given 5 chances to come out and take a couple of bites. He declined.

I put his shoes on him, and sent him away with my mum before I lost it completely.

If it was one thing then I’d be fine with it, but the fact that he is a constant horror on days like these makes it practically impossible for me to keep my halo on. It makes me feel like the worst mother in the world, thank god it’s only once in a blue moon he acts up like this.

I’m hoping my mum doesn’t bring him back until bed time.

Not the best of days

shut-up-babywee.jpg

I am bored out of my skull right now. I even considered doing some sit-ups for a fleeting second - yes folks, that’s how bored I am.

Anyway, today was crap. I have PMT, and my crankiness rubs off on the boy, and together we are just a total fucking disaster on days like this. He threw his lunch at me, decided to go on a destruction mission with the toilet brush in the bathroom (the toilet brush!!), bit a chunk out of my arm when I was trying to change him, screamed at me whenever I told him to tidy up, or at the very least threw something, and many many more mildly annoying things. I did not like my child today. My mum came over just after 1, and we went out shopping for a while, and at one point she had to take over the trolley from me as I was just not tolerating anything from him at all. I ended up shopping at the opposite end of the shop from them LOL. Anyway, he went to bed at 6.30 and fell asleep straight away. I went in to check on him at 8 and woke him up, and I can still hear him playing with toys in his room at almost 9.30. I’d desperate to go to bed myself, but my room is next door, and if he hears me he’ll be all whiney and shouting for me to go through and get him stuff GRRRRR. I actually want to watch a couple of episodes of Heroes in bed too, so he definitely needs to be asleep before I can risk TV noise in there.

Ah, what a grump I am. Stoopid kids, who’d have em? (MEEEEEEE!!!!)

Stoopid hormones, who’d have em???? *silence*

Catch up

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

I’ve neglected this blog recently, I must fix that!

Last weekend I went to a carnival themed ball at Alexandra Palace. It was a corporate ‘do, hailed as the biggest UK event of the year. My friend works for Carphone Warehouse, hence me wangling an invite. We flew from Glasgow to Heathrow on the Saturday morning, arriving in a very sunny London at around lunchtime. We tubed it to Camden which was to be our base for the weekend. We were staying in the Holiday Inn at Camden Lock, and of course we had to walk through the cobbles of Camden Market on the busiest day of the year in the scorching heat with suitcases and jackets galore. We were very hot and bothered by the time we arrived at the hotel. We had asked for a twin room but had been allocated a double, so the lovely lady on reception upgraded us to an executive penthouse room. SCORE. We had our own balcony looking over the whole of London, it was amazing, as you can see from the photo.

We chilled with a drink for a while before going back out sans luggage and jackets to soak up the atmosphere, have some lunch. (mmmmm falafel and houmous and salad on wholemeal pitta, yummy yummy) After spending far too long getting ready, and drinking vodka and cranberry juice on our balcony, we finally left for Ally Pally. dscf0309wee.jpg

It was a super night, even though I knew nobody and spent a bit too long listening to boring shop talk for my liking, but hey, it was a corporate event so it was to be expected. The carnival theme was done really well, they had loads of food stalls with carnival type scran. Jambalaya, Jerk chicken etc, and it was all delicious. They had stalls set up offering Nail art, hair braiding and henna tattoos, there was a big wheel, bouncy castles, surfing machines and all sorts. It was great to look at. They had live music all night, mostly playing cover versions, and at midnight they announced the main act, MIKA! He was amazing, and did a full 80 minute set.

We left at about 3am, and joined the taxi queue. We waited for half an hour to be told when we finally got to the door that there was a backlog of 120 taxis, so it might be an idea to walk down to the nearest high street and flag one. We went back in and grabbed some more food for half an hour then decided to walk. We walked down the road for a couple of minutes and flagged one of the black cabs thast was on it’s way up to pick someone up. RESULT! Sorry to whoever called a black hackney that never arrived…..

My footwear choice for the evening left alot to be desired, my feet were crippled by about 9pm, so I spent most of the night barefoot. My feet were filthy when we got back to the hotel. The next mornign we got up at 10, left the hotel at 11, hotfooted it to Starbucks in camden and tried to rehydrate ourselves after overindulging in the free bar the night before, then tubed it back to the airport and flew back to Glasgow.

So that was that, a fab weekend away for me with a good friend. I really really want to go back to London soon (in the summer) and have a proper wander around Camden. I love that place. I’ll need to try and manage down for a couple of days at some point.
