YAWN

dscf1296.JPGI am so tired, I am practically falling asleep sitting up.  I thought I’d blog for a while to try and wake myself up.  I should be working, but I’d make too many mistakes if I tried to log on just now, so am having a strong cup of coffee in an attempt to stimulate my brain cells.

It was a lovely day today so we spent the afternoon out on the grass at the front of our flat.  I hate not having a garden, but the large patch of grass right outside is always empty, so we’ve kind of claimed it as ours.  It’s so quiet around here during the week so we rarely see another soul while we’re out there.  I took a blanket, my laptop,a book and picnic out today.  Cal took his car box, scooter and his lightning McQueen chair.

My freckles are out in force, mores the pity :(  I’m so glad the wee man isn’t showing any sign of being a freckled freak like his mum. I even have them on my lips and eyelids. Grr.

I found some photos of my hometown from years ago, and it was such a blast from the past.  It was really strange to see the town centre as it was before it was developed.

This is Princes Square a couple of years ago (the most recent photo I could find):

This was it in the 70s:

It was so strange to see this photo.  When we were little we used to play on those stone things while my mum was shopping in Safeway.  I had completely forgotten they had existed, and seeing them again brought back such a weird sense of recognition. I wonder if they are still around someplace, or if they were demolished completely when they developed the area. The circular building to the right of the square (commonly referred to as “the mushroom” - original) was the entrance to the first nightclub I ever visited - “Downtown Miami”. My friends and I sent away for some fake IDs, and were so nervous the first time we went.  We never did get ID’d, and frequented the little hellhole for a good while until we saw sense and discovered rock music.  It’s made me want to research my home town some more, and find as many photos as I can of the place from the past. It’s so difficult to find photos of old EK though, but I will persevere, I’d hate to think of the memories of history disappearing with time.

Diet Riot

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Today is day 1 of me doing Slim-fast, in a bid to kickstart my look-gorgeous-by-christmas bid.  I’m planning on doing it for a month at least, with a break for a weekend away in Blackpool with some of my fab friends from OLM, then if I’m not totally sick of it, back on it until I am totally fed up.

Today hasn’t been too bad really, I had ordered my shopping online, and my rip-off diet stuff didn’t arrive until 11am, so I survived on a coffee until around midday, when I had a strawberry shake.  It was pretty nice (I’m aware the novelty may wear off soon) but I felt there wasn’t much of it - it only half filled one of my high-ball glasses. It turns out it was just enough, and it lasted me through until around 3pm, when I had one of the measly packet of cheesy flavour snacks. Tasty enough, texture of what I’d imagine cat litter to feel like, and not nearly enough to satisfy me.  Cue one large glass of Diet Coke with citrus zest.  I had a SF chicken and mushroom soup at around  5, which was surprisingly tasty, and another glass of coke. I’ll have a normal 600cal meal at around 8ish. I know everything is 3 hours ahead of what it should be, but I’ll be working until quite late tonight, so I won’t be going to sleep until a good few hours after my evening meal, so my metabolismshouldn’t get too screwed.

I also had a”brisk” walk this afternoon, which comprised of a half an hour walk to the furthest away park I know of, and then half an hour back. It’s all uphill for halfway, then downhill for the other half, so my leg muscles got a good work out each way.

Well, we’ll see how it goes….

*edit - Jesus, that post was littered with typos. I cut my nails earlier and cut into the quick on one of my index fingers, and my typing is suffering even more that it usually does.

Nosey Parker

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Well, after my whinging about my poor postman on Friday, my webcam arrived within an hour of me hitting the publish button.  I’ve had lots of fun playing with it over the weekend, and even had a webcam chat going on with the usual friday night chat girls over on OLM.  Much fun was had by all.  There are still a few girls who are having problems setting up their webcam XP to broadcast, but hopefully we’ll have them up and running before this friday. I’ve set up a little page for my cam feed so that any nosey buggers can see what we’re up to.  On days where I don’t get out of my jammies, or don’t brush my hair, it’ll be trained on my very cute toddler playing, or pointed out the window (as it is now).

If anybody knows of a good streaming multi-cam chat program or website can they let me know please (incase we don’t get everyone’s Webcam XP to run)

Snail Mail

Friday, July 4th, 2008

snail_mail72.pngI ordered a new webcam on Monday from 7dayshop.com. It was despatched on the 1st, and is still not here.  It’s coming via Royal Mail.  Enough said.  My postman is just the laziest git on the planet.  He doesn’t even turn up if it’s raining, and I’m sure he hoards mail until it’s convenient to deliver it, rather than when he receives it.  Most annoying.

My job is going ok.  I was taken off trainee status on Monday, so am now a fully fledged researcher, let loose on you, the public, to answer all your strange questions about anything and everything.  I never knew so many people were interested in animal mating habits and sperm.  Seriously, I’ve had at least half a dozen questions about sperm in the last 4 days.  I’m still quite slow, but am definitely getting into a better rhythm of answering, so hopefully my speed will pick up soon and I’ll start making a decent hourly rate.

We’re trying to potty train at the moment, and it’s a bit hit and miss.  We have had days with no accidents, but invariably the next day is a disaster.  Sometime he knows when he’s about to wee, so runs to the potty, sometimes he just wets himself.  It’s so frustrating.  I tried the Gina Ford potty training in one week method after a kind friend lent me her book, but it didn’t work for us, last week anyway.  This week I’m just half heartedly training when we are in the house.  He’s basically nappy free unless we are going out, and I’m not mentioning it so much, just asking him every so often after a drink if he needs a wee.  Again, it’s hit and miss.  I think the GF method might be a bit intense for him, as he’s sick of the sight of the potty, and isn’t really bothered by the excited praise he gets whenever he uses it. He just seems over the whole thing already, hmmm.  I may try a sticker chart in a couple of weeks if we don’t see an improvement.

Other than that, I don’t have much news.  We’re going out for lunch with my mum tomorrow, then shopping.  I may have another look at my bag of dreams to make sure I still love it as much as I did the last time I saw it, and I also fancy a new pair of jeans, and maybe a new top if I see anything.  Hopefully my mum will take the boy overnight tomorrow so I can have a lie in on Sunday.  We’ll see.
